Joan's email:
Hello, Carol! Here is the basic structure of the Joseph Kaltenbacher branch in Erie. I'll be able to fill in missing dates, spouses and children in a few weeks when I collect my second batch of Erie obituaries for the Kaltenbacher and for the Spetz families.

My grandmother, Anna Christina (called "Annie") was Joseph and Christina's first child. She was born on December 12, 1866 in Evansville, Indiana and christened on January 6, 1867 at Holy Trinity Church.

The next child, Frank, was born in 1869, also in Evansville. The subsequent four children were born in Erie, so I put Joseph and Christina's move from Indiana to Pennsylvania somewhere between 1870 and 1872. They do not show up in the 1870 census, but they are all present in the 1880 census.

The children born in Erie are: Charles (~1871), Theressa (~1873, George (~1876) and Josephine (~1879).

The birth record for my grandmother is how I discovered the maiden name for my great-grandmother Christina (or Kristina) Kaltenbacher. Our family has always used "Christina" or "Christine" -- my mother, the youngest of Anna Christina's eight children was named Christine. However, the Civil War pension record that my great-grandmother collected after Joseph's death uses the "Kristina" spelling.

I will round up some photos and family stories along with the additional information that the obituaries will provide. This is fun, isn't it! Joan
